Aston Martin

Aston Martin is a British luxury automobile company established in 1913 by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin. Originally based in Kensington, London, the company moved its operations to Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire in 1920. Until 1947, the company was known as Bamford & Martin Ltd. Aston Martin's first car, the 'Coal Scuttle' was hand made in 1913 and earned its name because of its distinctive shape. The first production model, the Aston Martin A-Type debuted in 1921, followed by the L-Type in 1922. Both of these cars were two-seater sports cars with an open body. Aston Martin was acquired by David Brown Ltd. in 1947 and the company's name was changed to Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. In 1959, the company debuted its first four-seater grand tourer, the DB4. This car featured a 3.7L engine, a new chassis, and a striking body designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. The DB4 marked a huge change for Aston Martin and was followed by other iconic models such as the DB5, DB6, and DBS. In 1974, the company was sold to Company Developments Ltd., and it continued to build cars under the stewardship of Prodrive between 2003 and 2007. In 2008, it was announced that a consortium of investors had bought Aston Martin out of receivership and returned it to profitability. Since then, the company has continued to produce luxurious grand tourers such as the Vantage and Vanquish. The company has also diversified into the luxury goods market with its own apparel line and accessories. Aston Martin continues to be a leader in luxury automobiles today, with a reputation for producing powerful, stylish cars that appeal to car enthusiasts around the world.
